அமைச்சின் பிரதான எதிர்பார்ப்பு

Duties and Functions assigned to the Ministry as per the Extra Ordinary Gazette No. 2153/12 dated 10.12.2019 are;

• Formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies, programmes and projects; in relation to the subject of plantation industries and export agriculture and the subjects of the departments and statutory institutions.

• Providing facilitation needed and providing other facilities for raising production by providing quality seeds and planting material for cultivation of plantation crops

• Enhance international competitiveness for productivity in the plantation industry
• Adoption of necessary measures to promote value addition industries based on plantation crops
• Issuance of licences related to tea and rubber
• Issuance of permits for export of tea
• Issuance of licences related to fragmentation of tea and rubber estates, and their control
• Optimum utilization of plantation lands through multiple cropping and integrated farming, thereby increasing production and employment
• Matters relating to the development, promotion and research activities of tea, rubber and coconut industries
• Formulating policies and devising strategies for directing farmers, fishermen, small scale agri entrepreneurs towards global economy by value addition to local products manufacture of highly valued goods, expansion of market opportunities and protection of industries and implementation with co-ordinating relevant institutions

• Implementation of policies for promotion of bio protection and sustainable resource use, including value added products

• Formulation of a national policy for the maximizing the utilization of lands with tea, coconut and rubber plantation for cultivation of fruits, vegetables and animal husbandry etc., and imposing limitations use of such lands for any other purposes thus enhancing their productivity
• Improving the quality of local crops such as tea, cinnamon, pepper for export market carrying the Brand of Sri Lanka in place of re-exportation
•  Supervising all Institutions referred to in Column II and matters relating to all subjects assigned to such Institutions.
